Photos Antioquia

This page is really just about showing pictures and videos of Antioquia - the mountains, villages and towns like Santa Fe de Antioquia, Jardin, Guatape and El Penol, Carmen de Viboral and the list goes on.

The beautiful Andean region goes all the way from the Caribbean Sea to towering, mountains where temperatures fall to well below freezing at night. There are rivers, architectural treasures, flowers, Colonial towns, history and a lot of stories hidden away in this great region of Colombia.

Video of morning in Santa Rosa:

Here I try to capture the atmosphere of the morning; people going to work, preparing their shops, having a coffee or in the market. An old man in a cafe.

There are two rainy season per year called "invierno" literally meaning, winter. During these, especially over the last few years, the rain has been heavy and changes the mood of both the region and Medellin that can receive up to 2500mm per years. Surrounding areas and around the mountains are said to receive 5000mm or more.

A quiet afternoon in the rain:

The following photo is taken just outside of La Ceja, on the way to Rionegro on a small dirt road:

I am beginning to discover more and more dirt roads up in the "Oriente" region to the East of Medellin. They can take some time to find and you need to get away from the main roads in order to experience the peace and tranquility of these areas. Colombians from the cities are not great walkers but if you take the time, you can find a number of options.
The more time I spend here, the more I get to learn about the culture and people. There is so much to explore and the further I venture off the beaten track, the more fascinating the details become.

Cobblestone streets in Santa Fe de Antioquia, horse and carts still very much use in Santa Rosa, secluded waterfalls hidden away among the private farms spread throughout the countryside.

Antioquia is indeed a beautiful region and this page is dedicated to celebrating this fact.

The image below is taken in Santa Fe during early evening when the light becomes warmer. This is just to the South of the main square where you church is located.
