Jardin Botanico Medellin (Botanical Gardens of Medellin)Jardin Botanico Medellin (Botanical Gardens of Medellin) An easy and enjoyable way to get there is by taking the Metro to the "Universidad" station that is very close to the entrance. I recommend a trip to the Jardín Botánico de Medellín for three reasons: - Entrance is free 09:00am - 5:00pm - It's a wonderful way to enjoy the calm of a large and beautiful park in the middle of the city. - The Orquideorama is a fascinating structure in itself and anyone interested in flowers is surely interested in orchids.
However, it's best not to expect a top-notch botanical gardens because unfortunately, this is far from the best I've seen which is surprising given the abundance of flowers and wildlife in Colombia but there you go. Over the years, there have been improvements to the park but I still think it's lacking in terms of, well, botany.
Believe me, this is a top-notch restaurant that uses fresh herbs from its vegetable garden. The food is light and the service possibly the best I've experienced in Medllin. Just ask for the restaurant, unless you see it. There's seating on the patio next to a pool of water that is very calming in case you're interest.
You can walk through the park along its' paths that take you through a small forest and along a large selection of flowers or just relax in the park itself that is big enough that you escape the noise of the city almost entirely. Later, you can enjoy the orchids in the Orquideorama and top of the experience with a good meal at the In Situ restaurant that serves a fusion of Colombian with modern food. Their website is at:
