Hotel Intercontinental Medellin - the best hotel in the city

hotel intercontinental, medellin, colombia

Hotel Intercontinental Medellin

Situated with a magnificent view over the city, this is in many ways the best hotel in Medellin. A friend stayed here recently (2010) so I have a much better feel for the place now.

The rooms are clean and modern with free Internet. Views are generally over the city and impressive.

In terms of amenities, they easily come out on top with:

- 25meter swimming pool
- 2 clay tennis courts
- high tech gym and spa
- mini golf

Fogon de Piedra

Outside restaurant next to the pool. The restaurant is frankly overpriced and the service is simply not good enough. The food tries at being up-market but fails miserably. I recently (2010) had some tasteless fish here with over cooked vegetables that was downright unacceptable at the price.

Brasserie

Large, brasserie-style restaurant downstairs. I haven“t had dinner here but the breakfasts are terrific - large buffet style. You can also eat outside.

Bari Bar

Across from the lobby, the Bari Bar is a "modern" looking area where you can quench your thirst. Minimalist with straight lines.

16 meeting rooms

There is a large selection of meeting rooms for business and in terms of representational qualities - it's top notch.

All in all, the outside area is fantastic. The pool is very big and the general feel of the place is exclusive, hidden away and a great place to laze in the sun, dip in the pool, sip a cocktail, read a book - you get the idea.

Despite its' upmarket feel, it does not strike me as particularly uptight.

There is also a small, chic, cafe upstairs next to the lobby that shows the modern approach they're pushing and I must admit that it works.

Given the location, mixture of sporting and business facilities, update design and feel of the hotel, the Hotel Intercontinental Medellin comes in first place - but of course, everything has a price.
