Flights to Colombia

Flights to Colombia vary in price and comfort. My experience is that its´s nearly always an advantage to book well in advance of your trip in order to get the least amount of stopovers and to find cheap flights to Colombia. Personally, I like Avianca because of their professional and friendly service, but any of the major Colombian airlines will do nicely.

The major Colombian airlines:

- AeroRepublica
- Aires
- Avianca

And, major airports in Colombia.

Cheap flights to Bogota

Cheap flights to Bogota are usually the cheapest (but not always) and most sought after. There are however, a number of international flights to the other major cities such as Medellin, Cali and Cartagena, so be sure to check these options and compare pricing before buying your ticket. You can also check other cheap flights to South America.

From the United States

Flights to Medellin and Colombia from the U.S. are relatively short and cheap. There are direct flights from Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and New York to Bogota and from New York and Miami to Medellin.

From the East coast, the easiest is to get either to New York or Miami. New York to Bogota is only roughly 5 hours direct and Miami to Bogota, just over 3 hours.

From Central and Western USA, you can fly directly from Los Angeles to Bogota, but if going to Medellin, it might be easier to fly via Miami and then directly onto Medellin from there.

Living in San Francisco, I´ve flown via LA to Bogota to Medellin and found the SFO – Miami – Medellin flight is much easier and faster. (only 1 stop)

Flights do fill up and especially around Christmas and the New Year when we strongly advice booking several months in advance. Planes fill up and you can be left with 2 stops or higher prices. Not fun.

- AMERICAN AIRLINES (Miami and New York to Bogota and Medellin)

- AVIANCA (Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and more to Bogota, Medellin and other Colombian destinations)

- CONTINENTAL (Bogota from New York and Houston)

- COPA AIRLINES (via Panama city)

- DELTA (Bogota from New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale and to Medellin from Fort Lauderdale and New York)

- JETBLUE AIRWAYS (via Orlando)

- SPIRIT AIRLINES (via Fort Lauderdale to Bogota, Medellin, Cartagena and Armenia)

From Europe

AIR FRANCE (Direct flights between Bogota and Paris)IBERIA (Direct flights between Bogota and Madrid)

From Europe, things seem to have gotten a little harder. British Airways have discontinued their London – Bogota route. The cheapest route is the direct flight from Madrid to Bogota and the further North you go, the harder and more expensive it becomes.

From Northern Europe, there seem to be two good options:- Get to Paris and fly directly to Bogota.- Fly to New York and then directly to Bogota or other Colombian destination.

From Southern Europe, the Madrid – Bogota option is best but I have to admit that service to Bogota with Iberia was terrible some years ago when I made the trip. I may be imagining things, but the Spanish crew seemed intent on giving little or no service to Colombians. Bad.

From South and Central America

From Panama, there are direct flight to Medellin and Bogota with COPA AIRLINES. It´s surprisingly expensive however.

From Mexico City you can fly direct and for an affordable price with MEXICANA or AVIANCA.

There are of course also several flights to Colombia from Caribbean destinations and surrounding South American countries. Note that Brazil is both far and expensive.
