Feria de las flores is the most important and celebrated of the festivals on Medellin

The Feria de las Flores is one of the biggest festivals in Colombia and is an opportunity to see the vast array of flowers from the region.

Arrangements known as Silletas, large circular arrangements, are paraded in the streets. There is also a veteran car parade that happens at the same time as the festival and in many ways the whole thing seems like a good excuse for people to wonder the streets half if not fully, tipsy.

The origins of the festival seem to be to a) encourage the flower industry of the surrounding region and b) to celebrate the independence of Antioquia and the end of slavery.
