These pages are dedicated to giving a better understanding of Colombia's whereabouts and also, to provide maps over some of the major cities and the Andes chain that runs through the Western part of Colombia.

Colombia is strategically located at the tip of South America, separated by swamps on the border to Panama that once belonged to Colombia. The country also has the privilege of long coastlines both on the Pacific and Atlantic sides, usually referred to as Caribbean.

The equator runs through the Southern part of the country which seems to surprise a lot of people, presumably because of associations with the climate of Bogota perhaps, which is decidedly cooler than you'd expect at this latitude.

You can see from the map below that the Amazon Basic does in fact cross the border into Colombia that is host to 20% of the well know and vital ecosystem. Colombia does in fact boast the second largest biodiversity in the world, after Brazil.

The Western Cordillera, runs through Medellin and then taper off as you approach the coastline to the North.
